The Seljuk Star: Bringing a Geometric Wooden Motif Back to Life

The Design Approach
The wooden star in the Aslan office was personally restored by Fatih Ada. Its natural grain and layered geometry were preserved while strengthening its relationship with the room. The project shows how even a small restored object can influence a space, with its personal story becoming part of the design.
Planning the Details
The eight-pointed star appears in Anatolian Seljuk art, including architectural decoration and tiles. Its symmetry can also create a striking sense of depth in wood. However, the use of a Seljuk-associated motif does not establish that every object bearing it dates from that period. We do not make a documented claim about this object’s exact age or place of manufacture.
Applying the Idea to Your Property
Cleaning and repairs to geometric wooden pieces should respect fine joints and surface details. In a contemporary room, a simple surrounding palette can help the form remain legible. This Atölye Aslan restoration offers an example of bringing traditional visual language into a present-day setting. The project page includes photographs and a silent video for a closer look.

The photographs illustrate work from our own project archive. Each property has different dimensions, conditions and priorities, so material and installation decisions need an individual review. Share photographs, a location and your requirements to begin a discussion.
