Reusing Materials in Renovation: Incorporating Reclaimed Timber Thoughtfully

Ask the Right Questions About Reuse

Reclaimed timber should not enter a renovation simply because it looks old. Review its history, condition and intended use together. Timber in the Atölye Aslan archive suggests different possibilities. Selection must follow the project and the material.

Condition and Suitability

Cleaning, preparation and repairs vary from piece to piece. Structural applications require suitable specialist assessment. Avoid definite age or species claims where provenance is uncertain. Discuss which marks should remain and which defects need attention. Restoration does not always aim to make a surface resemble a new product.

Dimensions and Material Coordination

An existing piece's dimensions influence the design. Consider timber colour alongside stone and new furniture in the actual room. Different reclaimed pieces should not be expected to look identical. Samples and trials can support decisions. Preparation times may differ from production using new material.

A Realistic Project Scope

Discuss reuse for distinctive interiors in Kalkan, Kaş, Fethiye and along the Muğla–Antalya route with Aslan Construction. Assess material suitability, workmanship and installation separately. Do not assume a quantified environmental saving without measurement. The aim is to give the existing piece an appropriate use under suitable conditions.

Explore the Project

The photographs illustrate work from our own project archive. Each property has different dimensions, conditions and priorities, so material and installation decisions need an individual review. Share photographs, a location and your requirements to begin a discussion.
