Reclaimed Chestnut and a New Character at Villa Destiny

The Design Approach
At Villa Destiny, approximately 200-year-old chestnut timber sourced from the Black Sea region was used for ceiling cladding. A whitewash finish lightened the appearance without concealing the grain. A large piece of chestnut from the same region became an epoxy table, giving reclaimed material a useful role in contemporary living.
Planning the Details
Age and appearance are only part of the assessment. Reclaimed timber should also be checked for condition, moisture, cracking and suitability for its new purpose. Cleaning, repairs and protective finishes depend on the individual piece. Coordinating ceilings and furniture within a related palette can strengthen the visual connection between them.
Applying the Idea to Your Property
For this project, the beds were designed to complement the ceilings, an old door was restored for the entrance, and outdoor seating was made on site. When considering reclaimed wood for a villa restoration in Kalkan, its future use matters as much as its history. Preserving an aged surface can produce more character than making every piece look new. The appropriate treatment should follow an assessment of each object.
